About The Happy Witch
My name is Katalin: Millenial, Taurus Sun, Libra Moon. I was born in Hungary, but I’ve lived here in the UK since 2011. I’m the mother of three boys – one dog, two humans, all full of love and kindness.
I was a full time mum for a long time. After leaving my marriage in 2023, I slowly built myself up from homelessness, battled anxiety, depression and cPTSD, all while caring for my boys and jumping through bureaucratic and legal hoops. Now I’m a business owner, a reiki master, a hypnotherapist, and most of all: myself again.
Reiki was a huge part of this healing journey, and I can’t recommend it enough to anyone going through any kind of trauma. At my first attunement I felt like I got something back that used to be mine; something I lost along the years. Now as a teaching master, I understand it was peace and self-assuredness. Also the magic of healing, as a fortunate by-product.
After completing a number of certifications and business courses, searching for and then finding this place in heavily haunted Warwick, and redecorating the shop with my mother, Ildikó, I opened The Happy Witch on 17 February 2026, on the day of the Lunar New Year of the Fire Horse. Being blessed by the representatives of the Coven of Gaia, my guests of honour, was really special, something I will always be grateful for.
This brings us up to the present. Since opening the shop I met countless extraordinary individuals, heard stories of awe and woe, and made some life-long friends. I am deeply grateful for everyone who helped my journey. I promise I will pay it forward.
My commitments regarding the shop:
- Everyone, regardless of background, is welcome here; you will be listened to and treated with respect. This is, and always will be a neurodivergent, people of colour, and LGBTQIA+ friendly space. The only intolerance I have is for hate. The shop is proudly listed on The LGBTQ+ Friendly Directory.
- I do not stock AI generated images, books, decks, etc., and use as little AI as possible in my everyday life.
- I support local artists and authors by stocking their books and creations.
- I aim to produce as little carbon footprint as possible: I source my loose tea from the tea company down the road, the Golden Monkey.
- I order my stock from UK based companies where possible.
- I only order from reputable sellers with ethically sourced crystals and herbs, and original products, never pirated or poached rubbish.
- I do not sell dream catchers, white sage or palo santo products, and I aim to educate people about cultural appropriation and closed practices.
Some of my achievements over the years:
- I’m the author of a dozen mind-body-spirit books, written between 2020-2025.
- My ‘The Little Book of Tarot’ won the International Tarot Foundation’s CARTA Awards in 2021, for Best Tarot Book independent of a deck.
- I was the chairwoman of TABI, the Tarot Association of the British Isles between 2016-2020.
- I received my Past Life Regression Hypnotherapist Certificate in March 2025.
- I received my Usui Reiki Teaching Master certification in March 2026 after shadowing my master in 2025.
